Resources and Legal

We have made improvements to our simulation software, Packet Tracer, by removing its dependence on Java and supporting Mac users directly. And we’ve brought the “gaming” experience into the student experience to keep students better engaged. The program also monitors emerging trends in education, such as massive open online courses (MOOCs); digital credentials; competency-based learning; and hands-on, maker-based experiences. We know that connections to jobs, certifications, and career resources is where learning translates to opportunity. Skills for All is backed by a job matching engine, an alumni network, employment partners, and more. It also makes access to jobs easier with entry-level certifications, requiring less time than traditional certifications. Learners also earn digital badges, a growing requirement of employers.

We provide global and inclusive access to help everyone participate in the evolving digital workforce. Empowering women in STEMCisco Networking Academy is educating women who want to build careers in IT. Worldwide, 28% of Networking Academy students are women, and in Megan Chapman’s home state of North Carolina—where almost 1300 women are enrolled in Networking Academy courses—the program is preparing women for careers that are in worldwide demand. Cisco Networking Academy partners with IT leaders and members of the AI Consortium like IBM SkillsBuild and Intel to offer introductory AI learning content. I have followed the learning and certification program at Cisco since my days as an engineer and have looked for something comparable but have been unable to identify one. There are dozens of technology companies which have certification programs, but Networking Academy is the only holistic program that builds skills and leads to certification and ultimately to employment.

This transformation is changing how organizations innovate and operate—and it means that network engineers have the opportunity to learn the skills that’ll make them indispensable. Hands-on learning with physical equipment has always set Networking Academy apart. In FY20, we’re exploring new ways to use virtual equipment and environments through augmented reality for increased student learning. In addition, we’re exploring digital badging to further recognize the skills and accomplishments of our learners for potential employers.
